Once you locate the missing tooth, gently rinse it without disturbing the root. Try inserting the tooth back into its socket root-side up. If you can’t, store the tooth in a container of saliva or milk and bring it to your appointment.

Fractured tooth

If you can find the fractured piece of tooth, rinse and store it in a container for your appointment. The team may recommend applying a piece of sugar-free gum to the remaining tooth in your mouth if it’s jagged or sharp.

Toothache

Avoid taking pain relievers if you have an unexplained toothache. Instead, apply a cold compress to the area to reduce swelling before your emergency appointment. 

Lost restoration

Locate the missing restoration if you can and bring it to your appointment. Avoid eating any sticky or hard foods that can irritate the affected tooth in the meantime.
